NEIGHBORHOODS & PROJECTS

Current neighborhoods we are working in include the seven along 4th Plain Boulevard between I-5 and I-205 – Rose Village, Central Park, Fourth Plain Village, Harney Heights, Bagley Downs, Meadow Homes, and Ogden. These seven are included in the sub-area plan created by the City of Vancouver in 2007 as a result of the area being one which could use a hand up. Low income, ethnically and culturally diverse, low rate of home ownership, struggling small businesses, and a perception by most residents of the area that this area isn’t a great place to be.

After just a couple years of effort, we have helped to facilitate positive change. By networking with neighbors, businesses, the 4th Plain Corridor Revitalization Task Force, volunteers from all over the community, students and educators, agencies, and city and county government – the area is transforming. Some examples include -

2008 – Fred Meyer Stores and their partners donated enough paint and materials to paint 15 homes between August and October in Rose Village Neighborhood.

2009 – Contractors and volunteers partnered with Americans Building Community to complete 53 projects in various neighborhoods along 4th Plain Boulevard. From painting homes, to refurbishing homes, creating a neighborhood garden, rebuilding fences, cleaning up 4th Plain Boulevard in the Boulevard Brush-Up, and cleaning up alley ways during the All Out Alley Attack. See more detail on the projects page.

2010 – With volunteers from the 4th Plain Corridor Task Force, we created the First Annual International Food Festival on July 10 at Warrior Field at 4th Plain and Norris. Projects continue in neighborhoods, gardens are growing, partnering with Southwest Washington Community Land Trust to build an affordable housing stock in Vancouver.
